San Francisco’s fashion community is entering an exciting chapter as the city prepares to welcome Vogue World in 2027. Beyond the international attention, this moment offers an opportunity to recognize the designers, models, artists, and creative professionals already shaping the city’s cultural identity.
I met Italian model and actress Beatrice Amore behind the scenes at Setting the Trend, a fashion and hospitality event presented by the Hotel Council of San Francisco at Macy’s Union Square. I attended as an invited guest providing editorial coverage of the program, which brought together civic leaders, fashion professionals, and hospitality executives to discuss how San Francisco’s fashion, tourism, and hospitality industries are preparing the city to welcome the global spotlight of Vogue World 2027.
The event, supported by Expedia Group, United Airlines, and Macy’s, celebrated the intersection of fashion, tourism, and the city’s creative economy. Its runway featured a diverse group of San Francisco personalities and fashion professionals, illustrating how the city’s cultural identity extends beyond traditional fashion circles.
Behind the scenes, my introduction to Beatrice offered an opportunity to learn more about an emerging creative voice within this community. Originally from Italy, she moved to California at 18 before pursuing acting at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. Her journey eventually led her into runway modeling, where she discovered another form of artistic expression.
What makes Beatrice’s perspective particularly interesting is how she approaches modeling through the lens of acting. For her, both disciplines require preparation, presence, and the ability to communicate through movement. Her Italian upbringing, particularly the influence of her mother and grandmothers, also shaped her understanding of elegance as something rooted in personal identity rather than expensive clothing.
I found another dimension of her story especially relatable. As a former competitive roller derby skater with a background in various forms of dance, I understand how movement, discipline, and performance can develop confidence and creative expression. Beatrice’s interest in karate and action filmmaking reflects a similar appreciation for the relationship between physical ability and artistic storytelling.
As I continue documenting the designers, models, and cultural figures contributing to San Francisco’s fashion landscape, conversations like this offer a closer look at the individuals behind the runway.
In this edition of my Voices Shaping Culture Spotlight Series, Beatrice shares how her Italian heritage influences her creative identity, why she pursued acting and modeling, and what she hopes Vogue World 2027 will mean for San Francisco’s emerging fashion talent. She also reflects on rejection, reinvention, and her ambition to bring emotionally compelling stories to the screen.
Voices Shaping Culture: Beatrice Amore

Italy has a rich legacy of fashion, craftsmanship, cinema, and artistic expression. How has your Italian heritage influenced your personal style, creative identity, and approach to building a career in modeling and acting?
My Italian heritage has definitely influenced my sense of style, but my greatest inspiration has always been the women in my family, especially my mother and grandmothers.
My mother has always had an incredible sense of elegance, and growing up, she actively taught me how to dress. I remember her explaining which pieces worked well together and which combinations to avoid. She taught me that putting an outfit together isn’t random; there’s an art to understanding proportions, harmony, and what truly complements you. She also showed me that elegance doesn’t depend on expensive clothing. You can create a beautiful, sophisticated look with affordable pieces if you know how to style them. I also have wonderful childhood memories of playing dress-up with my sister and cousins, trying on our grandmothers’ clothes. Fashion has always been part of my life.
I believe true style comes from understanding yourself rather than blindly following trends. Beyond fashion, my Italian upbringing has also shaped my appreciation for authenticity, genuine human connections, and honest self-expression.
Modeling and acting both rely on expression, presence, and the ability to communicate without always using words. What inspired you to pursue both disciplines, and how have your experiences in one helped you grow professionally in the other?
Acting was my first passion. As a child, I loved performing, making people laugh, and imitating Italian comedians. I’ve always been fascinated by human behavior and the stories people tell, even without words.
After graduating from a language-focused high school in Italy, I decided to move to San Diego on my own at just 18 years old. Although I had studied English for years, I wanted to become truly confident speaking it in everyday life. I also wanted to explore a different culture, step outside my comfort zone, and prepare myself for the possibility of studying or working abroad.
Those nine months completely changed my perspective and eventually gave me the courage to pursue my childhood dream of becoming an actress. I moved to San Francisco to study acting at the Academy of Art University. Acting helped me rediscover the expressive, confident little girl I once was.
Modeling came later, almost unexpectedly. At first, I doubted whether I had the right proportions for runway modeling, but I decided to give it a chance. What I discovered is that I approach modeling as an actress. Both require preparation, intention, and presence. Technique gives you the foundation, but once you’re performing, you have to trust your preparation and live in the moment.
San Francisco has a distinctive creative community where independent designers, models, photographers, and artists collaborate across different disciplines. What opportunities or challenges have you encountered while building your career here, and what do you believe makes the city’s fashion community unique?
When I participated in my first fashion show, I honestly knew almost nothing about runway modeling. I simply showed up and walked the way I naturally would. Looking back at videos of my first runway walk compared to my most recent one, I can see how much I’ve improved.
One of my biggest challenges was overcoming the feeling that I wasn’t good enough. Eventually, I realized that what I needed wasn’t a different body or personality, but more technique and practice. I decided to teach myself by watching professional runway models, studying their movements, and practicing on my own. I haven’t taken professional modeling classes yet, and I know there’s still so much I could learn from them.
One of my Voice and Speech professors always says, “Practice makes progress,” and that has stayed with me. I don’t believe I’ve reached my full potential, but seeing how far I’ve come through dedication and practice has given me much more confidence. Through fashion shows, I’ve also had the opportunity to meet incredibly talented designers, photographers, and creative people. What I appreciate most about San Francisco is its openness, willingness to collaborate, and freedom of self-expression.
I believe the city’s fashion industry has enormous potential. I’d love to see more visibility, stronger professional opportunities, and greater recognition for the talented independent creatives who are already here.
With Vogue World coming to San Francisco in 2027, international attention will turn toward the city’s fashion and cultural landscape. As an Italian model and actress working in the Bay Area, what do you hope this global spotlight will reveal about San Francisco’s creative talent, and how would you like to see the local fashion industry evolve?
San Francisco is honestly one of the most beautiful cities I’ve experienced in America. Its architecture, nature, breathtaking views, and diversity make it incredibly special. Unfortunately, the city is sometimes defined by its social challenges rather than everything it has to offer. Homelessness and visible hardship are real issues that deserve serious attention, but they shouldn’t become the city’s entire identity.
I hope Vogue World 2027 gives people an opportunity to rediscover San Francisco through its beauty, culture, and creative potential.
I also believe this could be an important moment for the local fashion industry. There are talented designers and artists here who deserve greater recognition. San Francisco has the resources, connections, and creativity to become a stronger presence in fashion. I’d love to see this global attention create lasting opportunities for emerging talent, rather than just one spectacular event.
Building a creative career often requires adaptability, resilience, and the willingness to pursue unfamiliar opportunities. Which experiences have most shaped your journey, and what ambitions are guiding your next chapter in fashion, film, and creative expression?
Moving to San Francisco has been one of the most transformative experiences of my life. Coming from Italy and having previously lived in sunny San Diego, I found San Francisco challenging in ways I hadn’t expected. It’s an expensive, demanding city, and building a life here has taught me humility, discipline, and perseverance.
I’ve received many rejections, and I know I’ll receive more. But I’ve learned to appreciate them because every rejection means I’m putting myself out there. I’d rather hear a hundred no’s than never give myself the opportunity to hear a yes. Living here has also made me more aware of how fortunate I am and how important it is not to take opportunities for granted.
Looking ahead, my greatest ambition is to tell meaningful stories through film. I’m particularly drawn to emotionally powerful stories about real people, especially those who struggle to find their place in the world. Films like Forrest Gump remind me how cinema can change the way we see others.
I’m also very drawn to action films. I remember watching Charlie’s Angels when I was younger and being fascinated by those three women fighting, moving with confidence, and taking on challenges. I remember thinking, “I want to be like them!” That fascination was actually one of the reasons I started practicing karate.
Through martial arts, I discovered that there’s much more to fighting than physical strength. There’s an entire art behind it, one that teaches discipline, respect, self-control, and the importance of knowing when to avoid conflict rather than escalate it.
I’ve always loved adrenaline and physical challenges, so being able to combine that adventurous side of my personality with acting would be incredibly exciting. I’d love to explore action roles that require both physical ability and emotional depth.
Ultimately, I want to keep challenging myself, growing as an artist, and creating work that makes people feel something real.
Closing Thoughts
What was interesting to me about my conversation with Beatrice Amore was her willingness to admit how much she still has to learn.
She remembers arriving at her first fashion show without knowing how to walk a runway. Rather than allowing that experience to discourage her, she began studying professional models, observing their movements, and practicing independently. Today, she can look back at those early videos and recognize her progress.
There is something refreshing about an emerging model who doesn’t pretend to have everything figured out. Beatrice speaks openly about rejection, uncertainty, and the challenges of building a creative career in San Francisco. Yet none of those experiences seems to have diminished her enthusiasm for what comes next.
I was particularly struck by the contrast between her childhood memories of dressing up in her grandmothers’ clothes and her ambitions to perform in action films. Both reveal someone who has always been drawn to expression, imagination, and the possibility of becoming someone different through performance.
As San Francisco looks toward Vogue World 2027, I hope the international spotlight introduces audiences to emerging talents like Beatrice, whose creative journeys are still unfolding.
Perhaps that is what makes her story worth following. We aren’t looking back at a finished career. We’re meeting an artist while she’s still discovering what she’s capable of becoming.
